Essential Questions:
How many letters there are in the alphabet?

Objectives:
•Students will be able to identify different letter sounds by sounding them out
•Students will identify beginning sounds, last sound of words by connecting letters.
•Student will identify upper and lower case by matching them.

Rationale:
Phonics involves the relationship between sounds and their spellings. The goal of phonics is to teach students the most common sound-spelling so that they can decode or sound out in order to form words. These strategies of sound-spelling relationships will help students to be more skilled, better writers and fluent readers.

Sequence of Activities:
Anticipatory Questions/Activity
After reading the book Chika chika boom boom, I will present a Prezi slide presentation and remain students that each letter makes a different sound. For example, A is for apple. B is for bee. Each of theseletters we can spell and strech out words and be able to write beggining sounds. Students need to know each letter sound and identification direct instruction. I will remain students about the book, and some examplesof how they can write or sound out the words in order to form a sentence. I will ask the class to raise their hands to contribute to a discussion of what they already know and what they are about to do. Write a list of letters on the promethean board and recognize each letter sound.

1. Students will be asked to sit down at the carpet and pay attention.
2. Before reading I
  • Recite the alphabet.
  • Using alphabet magnets, put the alphabet in order from A to Z. Remove some of the magnets so that some of the letters are missing. Ask the children to guess which letters are missing.
  • Ask the children to look at the cover and tell you what they see (tree, coconuts, colors, etc.)
3. After I will introduce letter sounds and a youtube video.
3. Students will be ask to pay attention for letter identification for beginning sounds.
4. Teacher will read Chicka chicka boom boom and will emphasized on letter identification for one word syllable.

  2. Ask the children to name the colors of each letter.
